An amazing first day to the 4G Conference here in beautiful Ridgecrest, NC.
Worship
Jordan Richmond (of Murray, KY) is leading worship along with his P&W band from FBC Murray.
- Jordan led the group with passion and with a grounding from God’s Word. Enveloped in Scripture, the music was capped off by Jordan’s version of Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise.
Panel Discussion
David Francis moderated a panel discussion on “Groups that Drive Spiritual Growth and Connection. More on the speakers later… but here are some brief highlights.
- E-Groups: Evangelism Groups are small groups that exist for the purpose of reaching out evangelistically. According to Dennis Pethers, they are a place where people can belong before they believe. A place where they can come with doubts, their mixture of philosophies and religions, and their questions and have a place of belonging before they come to Christ. E-Groups= a must to reach the lost!
- All Groups: Small Groups, Sunday School, Discipleship and Evangelism should be a place where doubts can be expressed with no fear of rejection or embarrassment.
- Dennis Pethers, a former atheist from the U.K., shared how even today he stills wrestles with questions and occasional doubts, and that all groups need to foster an atmosphere where these questions and doubts can be expressed and wrestled with among the group members.
- Obedience Based Discipleship: The need for didactic teaching will never leave us. However, if that is our only method for discipleship, we will fall far short of our goal of making true disciples of Christ.
- Dennis Pethers again expressed how we need to challenge our people to go out and do what they have learned. We need to disciple by example and put our people in a place where they are actively learning the concepts that they have passively heard in our classrooms.
More later… now time for the start of the 8 am session.
Grace to you all,
Bryan
