10 Ways To Go Backwards In Your Faith

Sometimes it’s the little things that count. For the Church in Galatia, it was caring for the Apostle Paul, mending his wounds, laboring in love during his illness. Paul knew they loved him and that they were committed to Christ. He felt it. He received it.

But something happened along the way. Something that unsettled the supposedly “settled” Christ followers of the Galatian Churches. Paul picked up on it, and in the Epistle of Galatians, he passionately rebukes their new syncretistic sojourn.

In Ch. 4, Paul, after repeated direct theological strikes in chapters 1-3, redirects his message to a heart level and compares and contrasts the Churches’ previous sacrificial care, with their current prideful rebuff and allegiance to false teaching.

This passage thus provides a setting for us to view the latitude and longitude of the Galatian struggle. I recently had the pleasure of preaching through this passage at the Veritas Service of The Cedar Street Church. This message lifts out ten distinct damaging patterns that we must avoid if we do not want to go backwards in our faith.
